What have you liked best about your time at Wood Rodgers and why?

“I have enjoyed meeting and working with very talented and diverse people here at WR. I have also enjoyed working on a broad range of projects including airports, local agency complete street and pavement rehabilitation and Caltrans freeway and ADA projects. Being a part of the expansion of the Las Vegas office has also been a great experience.”

What is your favorite Memory at Wood Rodgers?

“Our associate meeting in Lake Tahoe way back in the pre-covid days was a great memory.”

“Working on the reno airport reconstruction project at night was enjoyable. Definitely a different project, and surreal experience being on the airfield at night.”

Fiddyment Ranch Affordable Housing Project

With the high demand of affordable housing in the region, Wood Rodgers is proud to be a part of this exciting project that is scheduled to start construction at the end of 2022. Wood Rodgers is providing professional comprehensive engineering and surveying services for this 11.9-acre site located on the southeast corner of North Hayden and Crawford parkways, within a master-planned community.

This project is designed to include approximately 300 affordable apartments units. There will be a variety of sized one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units available. The site will also include approximately 577 parking spaces, including 14 for motorcycles. Amenities for this project will   include a pool, exercise area, basketball court and 6,000-square-foot clubhouse and leasing center.

Specific scope of services that Wood Rodgers provided include topographic surveying; entitlement engineering, including the preparation of a Storm Water Quality Plan; preparation of construction documents; design level drainage study; cost estimates; preparation of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan; and preparation of ALTA Land Survey Maps.

In response to the need for affordable housing, the City of Roseville recently implemented a new process (ODS – Objective Design Standards Certification) to assist qualifying affordable unit apartment projects to proceed past land use entitlement in a more streamlined manner. This is one of the first two projects in the City to utilize this process and as such there were some nuances to work through. The City was great at providing solutions to keep the project moving forward. The result was completing the planning / land use entitlement process 4 months ahead of initial schedule projections. Wood Rodgers was also involved with the first project to utilize this process.”, stated Jason Reed, Associate Senior Engineer.

Civil Engineering

With a broad range of expertise in civil engineering, we offer a set of services including initial feasibility investigations, estimating, design development, construction drawings, and construction engineering support. Our approach pulls on seasoned, talented engineers working directly in all aspects of the project life cycle, from scoping to closeout.


We approach each project with a unique strategy of maintaining a dynamic presence from initial planning through the final phases of construction, thus providing the opportunity to be actively engaged in innovative engineering and implementation of ideas that ultimately contributes to a successful project. Landscape Architecture

Collaborating with each of the firm’s disciplines, the landscape architecture studio creates places that contribute to the built environment. Design specialists bring a broad range of expertise in seismic retrofit, building design, bridges, transportation structures, pump stations, water treatment plants, culverts, channels, bulkhead walls, and infrastructure projects including the full range of retaining wall systems. Surveying & Mapping

The Wood Rodgers full-service surveying and mapping group performs aerial and terrestrial land surveys, control surveys, bathymetric surveys, and High-Definition Surveying (HDS) laser scanning. The group prepares plat and legal descriptions and utility and title ownership maps. Our surveys are performed using traditional surveying equipment, GPS-based equipment, and Unmanned-Aerial Systems (Drones).


Wood Rodgers provides a variety of transportation design services, including transportation planning, mapping, engineering, and construction support for roadways, bike/pedestrian paths, and airports. We have successfully completed numerous design projects for new roadways and airports and the expansion of existing facilities in both urban and rural locations, including many projects that required coordination with FHWA, Caltrans, and the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Water Resources

Wood Rodgers has a broad range of expertise in water resources planning, analysis, and design. From source generation, treatment, conveyance, and distribution, to drainage analyses and flood control design, our engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, and floodplain managers are equipped to bring innovative solutions to complex water resources problems.

For those that don’t know what asphalt binder testing is for, we’ll sum it up. Contractors are allowed to add a certain percentage of recycled asphalt back into the new material. Asphalt Binder testing is verifying that the oil content is up to the correct standards. Wood Rodgers is focused on sustainability and is excited to offer these services to anyone in need of them.

We have taken the exceptional step of developing the capability of Asphalt Binder specialized services to our clients. These services include asphalt binder testing that includes; PG Grading and Verification, Asphalt Binder Viscosity, Asphalt Flash Point, Cone Penetration, Resilience, Field Softening Point, Saybolt Furol Viscosity, Residue by Evaporation, Torsional Recovery Testing, Superpave Mix Designs and RAP Binder Recovery.

Wood Rodgers is now one of a select few laboratories that offer specialized asphalt binder and Superpave testing capabilities for our clients. With our laboratory being AASHTO Accredited with nationally recognized staff training and certifications, we can now provide our services to both the public and private industries. We have also teamed up with the University of Nevada Reno to provide state of the art technologies to evaluate performance properties of paving materials.

Wood Rodgers is one of 4 labs on the west coast with this capability and is the only private laboratory that has these combined capabilities in the State of Nevada.

Today is Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day! Introduce a Girl to Engineering, or Girl Day, is a time when volunteers, educators, and others act as role models, facilitate engineering activities, and show girls how engineers change our world. Research has found that this simple formula helps girls develop an interest in engineering, builds their confidence in their problem-solving skills, and creates a STEM identity.

Lets take a look at how some of our female Engineers got inspired!

Thi Nguyen-Schneider – Assistant Engineer

“As a kid I always watched shows like Modern Marvels, Build it Bigger, Megastructures, Engineering Disasters, etc… and always found it fascinating how things were built. Through my travels I always sat next to the window seat and no matter how late or early it was I always watched the take off and landing just to get a birds every view of the cities I was flying into; it seems like a living breathing organism that was constantly changing and evolving based on new demands. That fascination was always with me so when I was picking a major in college I knew that engineering was my pick I just didn’t know which one to go into so I went to the process of elimination. I hated dynamics when I took the course, so out goes mechanical/aerospace. I was not strong in chemistry, so out goes chemical/petroleum/materials. I wasn’t interested in electrical or thermo, so out goes electrical. Which left me with civil, which I was happy with because at the end of the day all those things that fascinated me about cities were not the little nuances but the big picture elements that civil works on.”







Grace Ericson – Transportation Intern

“Growing up my dad (who is a civil engineer) was always my role model. From sports to academics he was always the one I would run to for advice. For as long as I can remember, he has always encouraged and pushed me to always try my best at everything I do, no matter the outcome. Engineering has run in my family for a few generations, and I think it’s just something I’ve always had a passion for. Problem solving and coming up with creative solutions have always been something of interest to me. He never pushed me towards this career, it was always something that just felt right for me. Even though I know my dad would have supported me no matter what career I chose, it was the cherry on top to not only have him as a dad but also a mentor.”

I have always been very interested in sustainability and passionate about water in general, so specializing in water resources was the perfect way for me to combine all of my interests and have a tangible positive impact on my community.”








Lexi Robertson PE – Engineer

“I decided to study engineering after volunteering with my university’s chapter of the Student Association for International Water Issues (SAIWI). Through SAIWI, I participated in a service trip to Peru with a professor and other engineering students from my university. We assisted with a Peace Corps volunteer’s project to make potable water more accessible for a small rural village. That experience opened my eyes to the importance of water as a resource and showed me how the profession of engineering can improve the lives of others.”

Carley Stephens has been promoted to Associate at Wood Rodgers.  Carley has been with Wood Rodgers since the beginning and was the 17th employee hired.  She has worn many administrative hats throughout her almost 24 years with Wood Rodgers and for the last 15 years she has been the project accounting supervisor for our corporate accounting department, overseeing 6 employees.

What led you into the Engineering field?

“Mark Rodgers was my next-door neighbor and hired me as the first official receptionist.”

Who are your inspirations and why?

“My former supervisor and work mom, Linda Lomele. I learned so much from her during her time here.  She supported & challenged me to grow into the role I am in now.”

Describe your journey to this point in your career? What were your toughest challenges, so far?

“I started as the receptionist, was asked to help in Accounting, and slowly worked my way up from setting up contracts to now managing the team of Project Accountants.  My toughest challenge was completing my Bachelor’s Degree from UC Davis while working full time.”

If you were to use one word or phrase to describe yourself, what would it be and why?

“Problem solver. On a daily basis, I am tasked to solve problems large and small. I love seeing a problem, analyzing it, and coming up with a creative solution.”

In your opinion, what qualities do you possess or have gathered along your way, to help get you to where you are now?

“I am extremely process oriented, detail oriented, a critical thinker, but also creative and able to adapt quickly to change.”

What do you feel are your most distinguished accomplishments and career achievements?

“Being with the same company for over 20 years and being under 45 is very rare today and I am proud of what I have built with Wood Rodgers. The team of women I lead are loyal, confident, fun, and intelligent and I am honored to work with them. I am also extremely proud of my work with the STEAM Team and the impact we are starting to have in the community.”

Are there any philanthropic groups that you are involved in?

“I am on the Board of Directors of Project Lifelong, a local non-profit who empowers youth through skateboarding & outdoor adventures. I am also a mentor with AgingUp, a local non-profit that pairs teens from the foster care system with an adult mentor.”

In looking back, what kind of advice would you give to others who are following in your same footsteps?

“Always be willing to say yes to trying something outside of your normal job duties, you never know what talents or strengths you will discover about yourself.”

What is your favorite Memory at Wood Rodgers?

“I would say Survivor event at the Sacramento office. The whole experience was fun from getting to know people from out of the Reno office to the events.”

Do you have a Favorite Project you’ve worked on? If so, what is it and why?

“I would say Palisades. It is a three phase subdivision I worked on from pretty much my first day to when I moved over to the survey side in reno about 4 months ago. I was able to work on Civil Plans and plot plans which I did a large percentage of all three phases.”

Wood Rodgers recently purchased White Board Tables and chairs for Ms. Chabriel’s classroom at Rosemont High School through Donors Choose.

“My Students

My students are kind and helpful. They want to learn and they want to do what’s right. When a new student comes in, they welcome them. When I have students with disabilities, they are patient with them and include them. My students work together in their groups and are willing to put out their ideas, even when they aren’t sure if their idea is correct. They take chances and make mistakes. My students are the reason I am excited each day to come to work, I look forward to seeing them daily! They are willing to try new things. I am proud of how they are patient with the difficulties the school year has brought. I am honored to be their teacher and I learn from them just as much as they learn from me.

My Project

I am creating a classroom that values the process and not just the correct answer. A math classroom that focuses on the right answer tends to discourage thinking and the growth that comes from mistakes. In order for this to work, we use a lot of small group work(no more than 3 students at a time). The group work helps students consider how they explain their logic and thinking. It also allows students to have a safe space to share ideas and discover mistakes(which helps them improve at the Math). Discovering mistakes helps them ensure material comprehension. An added bonus to group work is the large growth in socioemotional learning and opportunities for students to encourage each other.

The problem is that our desks have a chair attached and they are cumbersome and uncomfortable.It is very difficult for students to work in groups or even comfortably sit in their desks. Many of our students simply do not fit in the desks. This makes it very difficult to focus on the math when they are sitting. Also when we are trying to complete our group work, there is no space to collaborate and when we work on our vertical spaces(whiteboards), we struggle to reach them because of the amount of space the large individual desks take.

We need tables and moveable chairs for our classroom. This would allow us to actually save space, allow students to sit comfortably, collaborate, and focus on math better, and allow us to push desks out of the way when we need to work on our vertical whiteboard spaces. The benefit of these whiteboards is a key to the thinking classroom as it provides a knowledge mobility and our version of “Creative Destruction” as we use ideas from others to combine it with our own.”

“Probably a project I’m currently working on for a large data center. I enjoy the large projects and the process of convincing a potential client that they will be in good hands if they award the contract to Wood Rodgers.”
