Wood Rodgers performed design project coordination services for a six-block length of Dixieanne Avenue (located in North Sacramento), the first Green Street to be constructed in the City of Sacramento. The Green Street project included the construction of low impact development type improvements to manage storm water runoff, enhancing community and neighborhood livability and to construct a pedestrian friendly environment. Our design incorporated existing and new vegetation along with storm planters and bioswales to treat storm water runoff. Engineered soil was used to help promote storm water infiltration. This Green Street sustainable storm water strategy not only provided low-maintenance vegetation but also met regulatory compliance and resource protection goals by using this natural systems approach to manage storm water, reduce flows, improve water quality and enhance watershed interests. The design enhanced the streets visual appearance and improved pedestrian opportunities. Traffic control was accomplished with the design and use of traffic calming devices (bulb-outs, and a traffic circle), and an ADA compliant pedestrian path from Winners Circle Park to the Swanston Regional Transit Station.
