Envisioning the future and planning for it. This is the guiding principle behind the Planning Studio Group at Wood Rodgers, Inc. We offer a unique service to our Clients by integrating creative land planning and urban design with innovative engineering solutions; balancing site constraints and public policy with the Client's objectives and goals; and helping our Clients maneuver through the complex regulatory and entitlement process. Our planners and technical staff have a diverse range of planning and design expertise, and extensive experience working on complicated, multi-faceted projects.

Our skills and expertise range from comprehensive master planning for large-scale communities, conceptual site planning and design for small-scale commercial and urban infill housing sites, redevelopment projects, parks and recreation planning, preliminary design and grading for hillside residential projects, open space, trail and parks and recreation plans, preparation of specific plans and design guideline documents, to detailed tentative subdivision maps. Our Land Planning and Design is supported by our in-house engineering expertise, so that our clients can be confident that they have a plan that is not only visionary but also one that works. Our exceptionally skilled staff is well equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to complete these tasks, and the experience to work through the politically charged process of planning and urban design.

Listening

Most importantly, much of our initial job is to thoroughly understand the land, its character and history, and the clients’ vision for the project. We believe that it is not enough simply to reuse past design ideas, but necessary to spend sufficient time with the landowner, his consultants, and the City and County representatives to truly gain a familiarity with the property, its surroundings, the important local issues involved with its development, and the ideas and goals of the owning partners. This kind of listening will enable us to achieve a balance between minimizing the impact of development on the area and its surroundings and enabling a reasonable return on the value of the property.

It is only through this approach and process that truly successful design and development solutions are formulated.

Ideas

At Wood Rodgers, we are particularly proud of our Land Planning professionals, loaded with experience and ideas, several of whom have well over 20 years of experience in large-scale projects. While many of our projects are in the Sacramento, San Joaquin Valley and Nevada Counties, our chief planners' experience stretches across the country from California to New England, Florida to Texas, and Oregon to Arizona and even across the international borders to Mexico, Russia, Korea and Africa. Our professionals have an amazing track record of past and present experience in the creation of innovative new approaches to large- and small-scale community designs in redevelopment districts, as well as growth areas.
